Welcome Ed Rae and Erich Simmons

Just as it is a desire to referee at the highest level, there are those of us (myself included) who desire to assess at the highest level as well.

In the US, these folks are termed "Referee Inspectors" and a description of their role is here from US Soccer, and below:

U.S. Soccer will appoint certain National Assessors as Referee Inspectors. This designation is at the discretion of U.S. Soccer and is reviewable at any time. Referee Inspectors will be empowered to assess all games but specifically at the Pro-Level and international level. In addition, all National Referees and National Candidates must have at least one of their annual assessments as a referee conducted by a Referee Inspector.

It gives me great pleasure to announce both Ed Rae and Erich Simmons as two of the newest US Soccer referee inspectors for 2011.

Please join me in congratulating them on this significant accomplishment!

  1. Thanks Peter for the news. I have several years experience with Mr Rae, having been assessed by him on my journey to National Referee , and my friend Erich in camp. US Soccer has become so much richer. These 2 men will bring excellent insight, compassion, and ability to "feel" what is going on a referee's mind. There will be many more National caliber referees coming because of Mr Rae and Erich. Thank you again for the update.

  2. Anon,

You are most welcome ... and I share your sentiments completely.

  3. Peter,
Believe I am the sole importer of
    BALILLA whistles in North America,
    directly from Florence, Italy.
The A-1, Arbiter, and Mignon metal
    whistes are no longer manufactured.
They have been replaced by the
MICRO and MINI metal whistles which
are neither too small, nor too big.
    They may be purchased through:
    MERECIE.US or on E-Bay from
    seller: wallyjrussell
I know many referees who just cannot stand to use pealess whistles, as I do.
You may publish this if you feel
    so inclined.
    Play on,
    Wally Russell

  4. Wally,

Those are classic whistles I still use to this day.

I am not a "pealess guy" AT ALL.

    Thanks for carrying "the classics."

  5. BTW Wally ... Great music!

    Who is that?

  6. Thanks Peter,
I have always known that you
are not a "pealess guy" in more
    ways than one...
If we budgeted more time to reading and correcting body language and listening to and perfecting nuanced whistles tones for effect and match control,
    our performance as referees would
    evolve limitlessly....
BALILLA is the Maserati of whistles.
The music is what I chose as my
    son Nathan's anthem during the
2 AM feedings in the mid '80s.
    It is called:
    Cycles by David Darling (Cello)
Specifically it is the Cycle song.
